AREA INFORMATION Lodging & Restaurants

Of the many choices of places to stay and places to enjoy a meal in the McCall area, there are some which we believe really stand out. And rather than create a complete list of places, what you'll find here is our very own "Best of McCall" list.

Best Lodging in McCall

The HUB Mountain House B&BThe Shore Lodge, Hotel McCall and The HUB Mountain House are the 3 best places to stay in McCall. Shore Lodge is an elegant historic place on the lake, and Hotel McCall is both historic and literally is the heart of downtown McCall; and The HUB B&B is 2 blocks from the marina in downtown. The HUB B&B and the coffee & tea house serves as McCall's adventure information center where you'll be treated like a local and get up to date area information from local guides and experts. *If you have a group, another option is to rent a home on the lake, golf course or in town with Accommodation Services.

Best Restaurant in the Area

The Jug Mountain Ranch Clubhouse and Rupert's at the Hotel McCall will easily win this award now with Gary Kucy as head chef. He has cooked for 4 presidents and was formerly at Jackson Hole's Snake River Grill and Santa Fe's Coyote Cafe. Both restaurants have atmosphere, a great staff, and spectacular views. Chef Gary Kucy is on par with any of the great chefs in the US. Shore Lodge's Narrows Restaurant has a very elegant setting, and is a close second place.

Best Coffee

The HUB coffee houseThe HUB is a local's favorite and features Intelligentsia and DOMA coffee. The HUB is 2 blocks off the main road known for very high quality fresh coffees, prepared meticulously. While you wait for your fresh roasted and freshly ground pour-over cup of the Chronic or a single origin Ethiopian, you can also meet great people and read backcountry magazines, catch up on local news with the local newspaper; watch classic and new skiing, climbing and kayaking movies, and get the scoop on mountain biking trails, rivers, fly fishing, backcountry skiing conditions etc.

Best Pizza

Crusty's Pizza is an inviting, family friendly little place with great pizza, a welcoming and friendly staff, and every Wednesday and Sunday there's great, free live music. 2 blocks off 3rd Street on Lenora is where you'll find this local favorite.

Best "Old McCall" Restaurant

The tie goes to The Mill and Lardo's, both vintage old establishments with a lot of character and history dating back to the sawmill days of McCall. The Mill is on 3rd Street on the way to downtown and Lardos is across the street from the Shore Lodge on Lake Street.

Best Wine Bar

The Bistro 45 wins many awards, not only for the wine selection, but for the vibrant atmosphere. Even if you've never been to McCall before, you'll feel like a local after visiting the Bistro 45, and you'll likely have made new friends as well. Find this off the beaten track gem in the courtyard of the Hotel McCall.

Best Beer

Salmon River BrewerySalmon River Brewery was opened by locals, and is one of those places not on the main road (only half a block off hwy 55) that is well worth visiting if you like high quality brews and going to a friendly place where the local forest service workers, smokejumpers, ski bums, fisheries biologists, and other locals gather for a pint of high quality locally crafted brew. SRB also has great traditional style fish tacos and other menu items - great place to head after being out in the mountains for the day.
